If you're feeling vertical, the Mill Mountain Star Trail is a 25-minute walk from here and climbs to the iconic star with views over the valley. Go in the morning before it gets warm. Carvins Cove is a short drive north if you want serious trail mileage — 12,000 acres, reservoir views, plenty of shade.
