The Freeze Warning the forecasters flagged yesterday is doing its last bit of work this morning and lifts at 9 AM. That's almost certainly the last cold morning of the season in Roanoke. After that the day stands up quickly: sunny, high near 71, a calm wind shifting to a soft southerly breeze by afternoon. A day built for walking.
The downtown calendar is light on a Tuesday, so we'll be straight with you — most of the city's big venues run on a Wednesday-to-Sunday schedule, and Taubman and a handful of galleries are closed today. Which makes this a good day for the quieter version of Roanoke: the Greenway along the river, the Mill Mountain Star trail, or a slow loop through Grandin. If you want to drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway is wide open and the hardwoods are finally leafing out.
Tonight settles in mild — partly cloudy, low around 50, the first night in a while you could sit on a patio without a jacket. From here the forecast only goes one direction: 80 tomorrow, 83 Thursday, 84 Friday. If you packed for early April you may want to do a small laundry reset midweek. Rain isn't in the picture until Saturday afternoon.
For today: RND Coffee is open around the corner for the slow start, Martin's patio will be catching sun by mid-afternoon, and A Few Old Goats is right downstairs — a short flight of stairs between you and whatever they have on tap. Back tomorrow.
