A morning after the storms, a quieter Sunday in front.

The line that came through last night did its work and kept moving. We're left with a mostly cloudy morning, a high near 69, and a 20% chance of a stray shower somewhere between 8 and 9 — by which point this will have passed and most of you will not have noticed. Light north winds shifting northeast through the day. After a stretch of high-80s afternoons, 69 feels like the kind of correction that asks you to put on a layer and walk somewhere.

The downtown calendar is a clean Sunday. Mill Mountain doesn't open Madagascar Jr. on the Mainstage until Wednesday, Big Lick's week is quiet, and the Jefferson Center's big show was Marsalis last night. The steady plan is the Taubman — free general admission, open noon to 5, and the only museum on this block of the schedule that keeps Sunday hours. If you didn't get to Both Sides of the Track yesterday between the rain bands, the galleries are still there.

For the cooler air, the Greenway is at its best on a day like this — the Roanoke River trail under cloud cover, no glare on the water, the trees finally fully leafed out. The Mill Mountain Star trail is the local move if you want vertical; the Roanoke River Greenway out toward Wasena is the move if you don't. Either way, you're back in time for a late lunch.

Then a clean reset overnight — low near 46, calm winds — and Monday returns to a sunny 72. Tuesday brings the rain back with showers and a chance of thunderstorms after lunch, so today is, in its own quiet way, the better outdoor day of the next three.

At the flats: RND around the corner if you're starting slow, the Taubman a six-minute walk for an unhurried afternoon, and A Few Old Goats downstairs by late afternoon. The patio will be cool today rather than warm, which is its own kind of pleasant. Pull a chair over.
