memorial day — clear and quiet, 84°, and the monday the city slows down.

Memorial Day opens at 52°, clear and still, then climbs to 84° by mid-afternoon. No wind, full sun, the kind of Monday that feels like summer claiming the week before it starts. It's a holiday, so the city shifts — most of the usual venues are closed, most of the downtown foot traffic won't arrive until tomorrow. What's open: the greenway, the river, the brewery on the main floor, and the long stretch of daylight that doesn't ask for much.

The Taubman is closed today. Center in the Square is closed. Mill Mountain Theatre is dark. If you're looking for indoor structure, you won't find much — this is the Monday that asks you to go outside or stay put. A Few Old Goats Brewing is open on the main floor, usual hours, usual lineup. The courtyard will be quieter than most weekends, the patio will get full sun by noon. If you want coffee before that, RND Coffee is a five-minute drive west — they're open, and they're the local pick.

The Roanoke River Greenway is the move today. Start at the flats, walk east toward Wasena Park, or head west toward Green Hill Park. It's flat, paved, shaded in stretches, and it'll be 84° by two or three — early is better. Mill Mountain is another option if you want elevation and the star view, but the greenway gives you distance without the climb. Bring water, start before eleven, and you'll have the path mostly to yourself until the afternoon crowd trickles in.

Tomorrow the week resumes — museums reopen, the Taubman is back on its noon-to-five schedule, and downtown fills back in. Tuesday's forecast holds at 80° with mostly cloudy skies, so if you want the full-sun version of Roanoke, today's the day. Tonight stays mild — low fifties, partly cloudy — so the patio will be comfortable past sunset if you're here for the long evening.

At the flats, the brewery is pouring on the main floor, the courtyard is open, and the patio will shift from full sun to shade as the afternoon moves. It's a holiday Monday, so the rhythm is different — slower, quieter, built for sitting still or walking long. If you're here, you've got options. If you're staying in, you've got the brewery and the evening. If you're going out, the greenway is waiting.
