mostly sunny and eighty-five — the Monday that settles into June's rhythm.

Eighty-five degrees today, mostly sunny, an east wind at five miles per hour that won't do much but drift. High summer weather without the drama — no storms building, no haze settling in. Just warm air, bright sun, and a Monday that invites you to move at your own pace. Tonight drops to sixty-two with a slight chance of showers after eight, but the day itself stays dry. Tomorrow brings a fifty percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, so if you've been waiting for an excuse to be outside, this is it.

The Taubman Museum of American Art opens at noon, stays open until five. The current exhibitions include contemporary work and regional pieces — worth the fifteen-minute walk if you want air conditioning and something to look at that isn't a screen. The Roanoke Symphony is dark tonight, but Center in the Square's got regular hours if you want to browse the local history museum or catch the pinball hall of fame on the second floor. Market Building closes at five, but Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea runs until six if you need an iced latte and a spot to sit near the market. A Few Old Goats Brewing on the main floor here opens at four this afternoon — Monday hours, quieter crowd, good for a slow pint.

The Roanoke River Greenway is the play for this weather. Park at Wiley Drive or walk the five minutes from the flats down to the river trail. Eleven miles paved, most of it shaded by sycamores and oaks, and the water's moving well after last week's rain. You'll pass under the old rail trestle, run parallel to the NS yards, and loop back whenever the heat gets to you. Mill Mountain is another option — drive up to the star, walk the half-mile trail to the overlook, get the valley stretched out below you. Just bring water. Eighty-five in full sun is real heat.

Tomorrow's forecast shifts wetter — showers likely before noon, then scattered thunderstorms through the afternoon. Fifty percent chance of precipitation, mostly cloudy, same high of eighty-five but with heavier air. If you've got outdoor plans, make them for this afternoon. Tonight stays dry until late, so the patio here will be open through sunset, and the brewery on the main floor will be pouring until close.

At the flats, the courtyard's in full sun most of the day, but the patio picks up shade after four. A Few Old Goats opens at four on the main floor — walk over for a kolsch or a pale ale, settle in at one of the high-tops near the windows. The Monday crowd is lighter, the music's lower, and the doors stay open to let the evening air through. If you're staying in tonight, the rooms stay cool, and the quiet holds.
