eighty degrees under clouds — the Tuesday that waits for rain that may or may not come.

The sky this morning is low and gray, the kind of June cloud cover that holds the heat close but keeps the sun out. Eighty degrees by afternoon, humid, with a slight chance of showers before 2pm and then a better chance of thunderstorms rolling through later. It's a day that asks you to carry an umbrella but might not actually need it — 40% means the storms could miss us entirely or drop a quick quarter-inch and move on. Southeast wind barely moving. By tonight the chance climbs to 60%, so if you're planning an evening outside, plan for the possibility of rain.

The Taubman Museum is open noon to 5 today — a good fallback if the afternoon turns wet. The Harrison Museum is open 10 to 5. If you want to catch a show, Mill Mountain Theatre has evening performances most nights this week; check their site for today's curtain time. A Few Old Goats Brewing on the main floor opens at 4pm — indoor seating, good for a storm watch if the clouds deliver. If the rain holds off through mid-afternoon, you've got a window.

The Roanoke River Greenway is the move if you go before 2pm. The trail is flat, paved, shaded in long stretches — start from the Roanoke River pedestrian bridge near Wasena Park and walk east toward downtown. Three miles round trip, easy turnaround whenever the sky starts to look serious. Mill Mountain is another option, but the overlook can get socked in with low clouds on a day like this. The greenway gives you more flexibility to bail if the weather turns.

Tomorrow the storms get more committed — 70% chance in the morning, showers and thunderstorms likely before 1pm, then clearing into partial sun and 86 degrees. If you've got outdoor plans, tomorrow morning is a washout but tomorrow afternoon might open up. Tonight's rainfall could be heavier, between a quarter and half inch, so expect wet pavement and full gutters by morning.

At the flats, the courtyard is open but probably better saved for tomorrow afternoon if the sun comes back. The patio furniture can handle a little mist, but nobody wants to sit outside in a thunderstorm. A Few Old Goats pours at 4 — grab a table inside, watch the street, see if the rain shows up or if this Tuesday just stays gray and warm and undecided until nightfall.
