eighty-four and unsettled — a Tuesday that keeps its options open.

The morning carries a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms — most likely after 11am — with the real weather arriving tonight. Expect partly sunny skies through midday, then watch the southwestern horizon. High of 84°F, southwest winds gusting to 24 mph. Tonight turns guaranteed: 100% chance of rain, with half to three-quarters of an inch expected between 8pm and morning. This is an indoor-plan Tuesday with brief windows for anything outside.

The Taubman Museum is open 10am to 5pm — five floors, free admission, full air conditioning. The current exhibitions run through late August, and the third-floor café stays open until 4pm. Center in the Square keeps similar hours: Science Museum until 5pm, History Museum until 5pm. If the storms hold off through lunch, the City Market is open — but have a backup. Tonight's Mill Mountain Theatre performance is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at 7:30pm in the Trinkle MainStage. Arrive early if rain's falling; covered parking helps.

The Roanoke River Greenway stays walkable between storms — the section from Wasena Park east toward downtown runs flat and paved, with several bailout points if skies darken. But this isn't a greenway day for distance. Better: drive to Mill Mountain and take the short paved path to the star overlook before 2pm, or save the outdoor plan for Thursday. Tomorrow brings more rain through early afternoon (80% chance), then storms taper Wednesday evening. By Thursday morning, we're looking at partly cloudy and 60°F overnight lows — the first genuinely comfortable air in a week.

A Few Old Goats Brewing on the main floor opens at 4pm with ten taps and the covered courtyard for anyone willing to test the weather between cells. The patio furniture dries fast, and the brewery's always warmer than the forecast suggests when you're under the market lights with a pilsner. Tonight's rain will be loud against the courtyard awning — the kind of storm that makes you glad you stayed close.
